Rounding to the nearest ten, hundred or thousand

Round a whole number to a stated place value.

  • Find the last place you need to keep.
  • Look at the digit immediately to its right: 5 or more rounds up.
  • Replace discarded whole-number digits with zeros.

Example 1

Round to the nearest hundred.
