Dividing by powers of ten

Divide whole numbers and decimals by 10, 100 or 1000.

  • Divide by 10: move every digit one place right in a place-value chart.
  • Divide by 100: move two places; by 1000: move three.
  • Include a zero before a decimal point when the value is less than one.
